scent

From the interminable chaos it came
like a sea roaring wind
burnt blue hues it sparkled in the eyes
of those who beheld it.
Spirit-fed intoxicated word form
It swept over this room, this house
the vast garden outside
Deep green, lily pad and midnight clover
tearing to splinters the mahogany and willow
smashing the china in the hallway
tear-blue oriental paint and bone white ivory
The chaos was a dark purple cloud in the sky
rotating by itself, calling thunder from the mountains
Silent anger and confusion spreading through the air
like a perfume
Scathing scenting splaying and souring all it touched
tainting forever the peace and innocence
before dissipation
and cerulean sky and sunlight beams
and hummingbird cries and honey bees
and no lingering remembrance or thought
only a deep scar absorbed by the soil
the earthworms, blind, deaf and mute, remember.
